Banned Book Review: Monday's Not Coming

Updated: May 16, 2023

More than 100 books have been targeted by a small group of people attempting to vilify educators and books for political purposes in Laramie County. Influenced by national groups that don't understand Wyoming Values, they'd have books like Monday's Not Coming banned, or isolated from students who would need parental permission to read them.

Parents & Guardians already have the tools they need to prevent their student from reading this (or any) title without infringing on the rights of other students. By using the opt-out form available on the LCSD#1 Website parents have total control.

Wyoming Families for Freedom believes in parental control without government overreach. We know banning, or complicating access to books is not a Wyoming value, and urge you to tell the LCSD#1 Board of Trustees to keep the current book policy- visit our TAKE ACTION PAGE to learn more.

People who advocate for the removal or restriction of a book have rarely read it, relying instead on out of context excerpts feed to them from out of state groups with political motives to vilify educators and harm public education.

We encourage you to read this review from one of your neighbors, and read the book in question yourself. We believe you will find, as our professional librarians have already established- that the book has merit and value when taken as a whole.

BANNED BOOK REVIEW BY A CITIZEN OF LARAMIE COUNTY-

MONDAY'S NOT COMING

Reviewed by Jenn, Cheyenne, WY

This book asks the question: how do we care for our most vulnerable? Who should step in when parents are struggling and kids are suffering? What safety nets do we have in place and do they really function well? Who is at fault when the worst happens and a child pays the ultimate price for a failure in the system? In addition to these questions, the book addresses cyber bullying and dealing with an undiagnosed learning disability. There is so much empathy building that can be gained from reading this book!
